Ray Pfortner Named Director of Education at Seattle's PCNW

Ray Pfortner has been selected as the new director of education for Seattle's Photographic Center Northwest (PCNW). He is responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of PCNW's fine-art curriculum and faculty concerns.

A previous faculty member himself, the 30-year veteran has been a photography instructor since 2001 and serves as a consultant to photographers on business practices and book publishing.

NANPA Honors Photographers Promoting Nature Photography

Earlier this year, at its 12th Annual Summit, the North American Nature Photography Association recognized a number of photographers whose work has helped to promote the field of nature photography. Patricio Robles Gil, whose books illuminate the beauty and fragility of Mexico's ecosystems, was named the 2006 Outstanding Photographer of the Year. Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to environmental and fine-art photographer Pat O'Hara and Les Line, former editor-in-chief at Audubon for 25 years.

After nearly eight years as the magazine and publishing liaison at Art Wolfe, Seattle’s Ray Pfortner has left to establish a business venture of his own.
